Two Books to Tantalize

Christian Imagination

Magdalen's Way, released in 2003, received much attention. Now the prequel, From Whence They Came, promises to give readers yet another view of Jesus, his Mother Mary, and Mary Magdalen the Bride of Christ.

Responding to the requests of her readers, Arlene Colver continues to illustrate the historical probabilities in the lives of first century Christians.

Meet Mary of Magdala, Bride of Christ & Keeper of the Way

Mary Magdalen once thought of herself as the prostitute bride of an executed criminal.

Mary was a Priestess living in the temple of the Goddesses Mari, Anna and Ishtar. She was given to the Goddesses as a gift from her parents who thought that in exchange for their virgin child, they would receive wealth and protection. They also thought that their daughter would be raised to a level higher than the other women in the community and have the blessings of the Great Mother.

She had undergone the initiation rite of defloration when she reached puberty and was not to take a husband but had many lovers while at the temple and was revered as a Priestess by the Roman soldiers, Greek traders and nobles until she gave it all up for an eccentric and loving prophet…Jesus of Nazareth.

When she becomes pregnant with their child, Mary is afraid for safety of her baby and after Jesus’ ascension, leaves her home to travel to the Celtic tribes of Gaul and then on to Avalon and the country of Holland and the Roman Empire. She meets many people in her travels and learns that there are many who believe as she does but fear for their safety if it be known. These people flock to Mary and become her disciples…helping her in any way they can to spread the word of Christ…which was now Magdalen’s Way.

There is life after death; spirit is who we are and the body is the host so that we may have the human experience; Mary’s womb is considered to be the Holy Grail. All of these theories and more are explored in this well written but controversial book. It is written as a love story…and at times is an emotional roller coaster of sadness and humor. It is an inspirational work that will open the eyes of many and make them question the very foundations of their own beliefs.

I recommend this book to those who have already begun to study alternatives to popular beliefs.

From Whence They Came

Prostitution to Papacy, A Christian Goddess Tale

By Arlene Colver

A prequel to Magdalen’s Way, this work is the first in a three part series based on an amazing and enlightening dream sequence lasting five years. The final volume of the trilogy is scheduled for release next year.

From Whence They Came is a story about the lives of some of the most prominent figures in the New Testament and the circumstances that brought them to the New Way of Christianity. Mary, the mother of Jesus; Magdalen, his wife and Miriam, the “other Mary” who stood by the cross, factor significantly in the development of the religious movement that changed the course of human history

Each character evolves, uniquely blending Pagan, Jewish and Christian attitudes, traditions and mores. Here one can see a laughing, dancing, singing Jesus whose life is engraved with as much joy as sorrow. Mother Mary begins as a devotee of Yahweh with idealistic visions of her service and develops into a loving wife and mother, with strength that far exceeds her frail figure. Mary Magdalen, becoming the High Priestess of the Temple at Magdala, is an intuitive, intelligent and beautiful Temple Virgin. Meeting the Master Jesus she moves from prostitute to wife, apostle and, with his passing, Papess of a New Way.

Making gentle but direct reference to the intimacy of relationships - both physical and emotional  - the story divulges the clandestine likelihood that our spiritual heroes and heroines had a healthier attitude toward sexuality than we might once have thought

Excellent perspective on the Eternal Feminine, February 26, 2004

Reviewer: Juanita Zeigler from Moyock, NC United States

If you liked the DaVinci Code, you will love this book. It looks at the Holy Grail and what and who the Holy Grail represents.

This book gives an excellent perspective of what Jesus taught about Compassion, Love, Acceptance, and Hope for the future. It is told and experienced through the feminine energy of Mary of Magdala. This book gives a matriarchal balance to the patriarchal theme of most religions in today’s world. We need to understand that violence, war and hatred no longer serve our world; we need to get back to the principles that Jesus and Magdalene taught two thousand years ago. This book teaches Faith, Hope and Charity, all aspects of pure Love.

It is a treasure if you are seeking a new peaceful way to live.

Kudos to Arlene Colver for this wonderful creation.

"I finished your book on Mary of Magdala. This is a beautifully written, wise, important piece of work. You write of the depth and quality of Mary and Jesus’ connection. All prior messages I got from the Bible were that truly good and holy people lived celibate, singular lives. Your story brings to light the importance and power of relationships between men and women. Jesus, whose life and words people still study and are guided by, did not live alone without a partner. This is GOOD news!"

Claudia Weber

"This imaginative novel speculates about the second most enigmatic woman of Christianity might have been like and what role she might have played in the rise of the Way. Drawing upon the Gnostic legends, Mary Magdalen is elevated to a position of pre-eminence among the followers of Christ, above even the Holy Mother or the Saints Peter and Paul. She is credited, by the author, with having the greatest comprehension of Jesus' teachings, enabling her to be a leader among the Apostles after His return to the Father. In fact, the story takes her importance a step further, implying that she truly knew Jesus as His wife and mother of His child. The plot takes Mary and St James to the Celtic land to bring the natives of Britain the message of Christianity. It is here that Mary spend the remainder of her life among those of the Druidic religion."
